LinkedIn text formatter.
Bold, italic and bullets for LinkedIn, a live preview of where “…more” cuts your post, and a character counter for every limit. Free, no sign-up.
The whole post fits before “…more”. Approximate: the exact cut-off depends on the reader's screen.
LinkedIn has no bold or italic button. To format text, select it above and click Bold or Italic: the letters are swapped for Unicode lookalikes that paste into LinkedIn as normal text. Then copy the result into your post, comment or profile.
How to use it
- Write or paste your text into the box.
- Select the words you want to style and click a button, or press Ctrl+B / Ctrl+I (⌘B / ⌘I on a Mac).
- Add bullets, arrows or a divider where your cursor is.
- Pick where the text is going (post, comment, headline…) to check the character limit.
- Check the preview, then click Copy text and paste it into LinkedIn.
LinkedIn character limits
Styled letters count double, so leave room if you format a lot.
| Where | Character limit |
|---|---|
| Post | 3,000 |
| Comment | 1,250 |
| Headline | 220 |
| About section | 2,600 |
| Connection request note (free account) | 200 |
| Connection request note (Premium) | 300 |
| InMail | 2,000 |
Free accounts can add a note to 3 connection requests a month; Premium removes that cap. More in LinkedIn connection limits and LinkedIn message templates. Checked October 2026.
Formatting that helps, not hurts
That's all anyone sees before “…more”. Lead with the result or the surprise, and keep the first line short.
Bold works as a highlighter. A whole bold paragraph is harder to read and, for screen readers, sometimes unreadable.
Short lines and white space beat formatting. Arrows and bullets make lists easy to scan on a phone.
Wingflow sends personalised invitations and follow-ups for you, and stops when someone replies.
Questions
Can you bold text on LinkedIn?
Not with a button. LinkedIn has no bold or italic option, so formatters swap your letters for Unicode lookalikes (mathematical bold and italic characters). They paste as normal text, so they work in posts, comments, your headline, your About section and messages.
Does bold text hurt reach on LinkedIn?
There's no evidence LinkedIn ranks styled posts lower. The real costs are elsewhere: screen readers can read styled letters badly or skip them, and LinkedIn search may not match styled words. Use it for a few key words, not whole posts.
Why do styled letters count as two characters?
Bold and italic lookalikes sit outside the basic character set, and LinkedIn counts each of them as two characters. A 150-character sentence in bold can use about 300 of your limit. The counter above counts them the same way.
Why didn't some characters change?
Only plain A–Z, a–z and, for bold, 0–9 have lookalikes. Accented letters, symbols, emoji and other alphabets stay as they are, and italic has no number lookalikes.
Where does LinkedIn cut off a post with “…more”?
After about three lines in the feed, so roughly 200 characters on desktop and fewer on a phone. Line breaks count as lines, which is why short first lines show more text. The preview above shows the cut-off for both.
Is my text stored anywhere?
No. The formatter runs entirely in your browser; your text is never sent to Wingflow or anyone else.
