How profile viewing settings work
You choose how you appear when you look at someone else's profile:
- Your name and headline: they see exactly who you are.
- Private profile characteristics: they see something like "Someone at a software company".
- Private mode: fully anonymous.
The trade-off: on a free account, if you browse privately, you can't see who viewed you either (LinkedIn Help). Premium members keep their viewer list in private mode. And nobody, not even Premium, can see the names of people who viewed them privately.
How to see who viewed your profile
On desktop, open your profile and click Profile views in the analytics section, or go to Me → View profile and scroll to Analytics. On mobile, tap your photo, open your profile and find the same analytics section (LinkedIn Help).
Using profile views for outreach
Profile views work in both directions:
- When you view someone, with your name showing, they get a notification. That makes your name familiar before your invitation arrives, which is why many outreach sequences start with a profile visit. In Wingflow, for example, a sequence can visit the profile, wait, then send the invitation.
- When someone views you, it's a light signal of interest. A short, relevant note to a recent viewer usually lands better than a cold message.
Keep it human. Viewing hundreds of profiles a day looks like a bot, and the people searches behind it count toward LinkedIn's commercial use limit on free accounts.
