The limit at a glance
| What LinkedIn says | |
|---|---|
| Who it affects | Free accounts whose searching "indicates commercial use, like hiring or prospecting" |
| Resets | Midnight PST on the 1st of each calendar month |
| How many searches | Not published; LinkedIn doesn't show what's left |
| Removed by | Premium Business, Sales Navigator, Recruiter Lite |
| Can support lift it? | No |
From LinkedIn Help, checked October 2026.
What counts and what doesn't
| Counts toward the limit | Doesn't count |
|---|---|
| Searching for people (web and mobile) | Searching someone's name in the top search box |
| Browsing "People also viewed" | Browsing your own 1st-degree connections |
| Browsing a company Page's People tab | Job searches |
What to do when you hit it
- Wait for the 1st. It resets automatically at the start of the next month.
- Save searches and lists while you can. Do your broad searching early in the month and save the results, so you're working from a list rather than searching again. Importing a search into an outreach tool like Wingflow does the same job: you build the list once and work through it for weeks.
- Use exact name searches for people you already know about; those don't count.
- Upgrade if you prospect every week. Premium Business (from US$69.99/month) is the cheapest plan that removes it; Sales Navigator (from US$119.99) adds lead lists and better filters. See Premium prices.
Premium Career isn't listed among the plans that remove the limit, so don't upgrade to Career for this.
Why LinkedIn has it
LinkedIn wants free accounts used for networking, and charges for searching at prospecting or recruiting volume. The limit is about search volume, not connection requests, which have their own weekly invitation limit.
Questions
When does the LinkedIn commercial use limit reset?
At midnight Pacific time (PST) on the 1st of each calendar month.
How many searches can I do before hitting the limit?
LinkedIn doesn't publish the number, and it doesn't show how many searches you have left.
Can I ask LinkedIn to remove the limit?
No. LinkedIn says it can't lift the limit on request. Upgrading to Premium Business, Sales Navigator or Recruiter Lite removes it.
Does searching by name count toward the limit?
No. Name searches in the top search box, browsing your 1st-degree connections and job searches don't count.
