LinkedIn Social Selling Index (SSI): What It Is and Does It Matter?

By Wingflow team · Updated · 2 min read

What is the Social Selling Index?

LinkedIn describes SSI as "a metric from 0 to 100 that indicates how well social sellers establish a professional brand, find the right prospects, engage with key insights, and build relationships" (LinkedIn).

The four pillars

Each pillar is worth up to 25 points (LinkedIn).

Pillar What it looks at How to improve it
Establish your professional brand Profile completeness, endorsements, posting Finish your profile, post useful content regularly
Find the right people Searches, profile views, connections Search and view people in your target market
Engage with insights Shares, likes, comments Comment thoughtfully on your prospects' posts
Build relationships Connections, acceptance rate, message response rate Invite relevant people, write messages that get replies

Where to check your score

Go to linkedin.com/sales/ssi while logged in. It shows your total, each pillar, and how you rank against your industry and network.

Does SSI still matter?

Less than it used to, by LinkedIn's own account. Its SSI page is now titled "From Social Selling Index (SSI) to AI" and says:

"The SSI score no longer accurately reflects the modern sales environment… A high SSI score doesn't always represent the efficacy of a sales person or correlate with measurable sales outcomes."

LinkedIn's older claims still get quoted, like "social selling leaders create 45% more opportunities" and sellers who excel being "51% more likely to hit quota", but LinkedIn itself now says "less scoring, more selling."

How to use it now

Treat SSI as a checklist of good habits, not a target:

  1. A complete, buyer-focused profile. It's the first thing prospects check after your invitation.
  2. Target the right people. Better targeting raises your acceptance rate, which also lowers restriction risk.
  3. Engage before you pitch. A comment on someone's post makes your invitation feel familiar.
  4. Measure replies and meetings, not points.

Questions

How do I check my LinkedIn SSI?

Go to linkedin.com/sales/ssi while logged in. It works on free accounts too.

What is a good SSI score?

LinkedIn doesn't define one. Because it now says the score doesn't reliably track sales results, focus on the activities behind it rather than a number.

How often does SSI update?

It's widely reported to update daily, though LinkedIn's current pages don't state this.

Does SSI affect how LinkedIn treats my account?

LinkedIn doesn't say it does. The inputs that matter for outreach, like connection acceptance rate, do affect restriction risk on their own.
